Milton Friedman was a celebrated Nobel Prize-winning economist and his monetarist theories were highly influential on the Ronald Reagan and Great Britain’s Margaret Thatcher administrations in the 1980s and 90s. Friedman certainly believed that 'there's no such thing as a free lunch' and he published a book with that title in 1975.

ReplyDeleteI think that it means that nothing is free. Someone had to sacrifice or pay something to bring someone that lunch. It's not like it came from the air. While it may be of no cost to the person receiving it, it took a lot to get there. That's what I'm assuming the saying "there's no such thing as free lunch means."

nvm i see it... Well i think the phrase means nothing in life is free. When they say free lunch i think you still pay it in your taxes. I mean they have to get their food somehow. That means someone in this world has to pay for it. it cost money to pay for the shipping and handling.
ReplyDeleteIt probably means that nothing is really free.You have to work for it or someone has to work for it.It isn't free concerning time or effort even if the price is free.
ReplyDeleteI think ''theres no such thing as a free lunch'' means your'e never going to have a free lunch because there is always an opportunity cost. For example lets say I eat school lunch. Chances are I'm probaly not going to like it, so my opportunity cost is being hungry until I get home. Another example would be if I had my parent bring me lunch. Of course I'm going to like the lunch but 'm going to have to wait longer to receive<(hope I spelled that right..) my lunch. That is what I think ''theres not such thing as a free lunch'' means.
ReplyDeleteI think that saying "Theres no such thing as a free lunch", means Its not free at all. All things in life cost something in the world. Say if you get a "free lunch", yeah it might be free to you but the state actually pays for it... I think.

Time for example , for example is something sacrificed . You can be somewhere else doing something else besides sitting there eating. That's what I think the saying "there's no such thing as free lunch " means .
ReplyDeleteThe Phrase Means That Everything Has To Be Paid For . Nothing Is Free Even If It Doesn't Have An Actual Price . But Even If You Dont Literally Pay For It With Cash , You're Paying For It With Time Or Effort .

ReplyDeleteIt means that it is not 100% free. Somebody somewhere paid for that lunch. When working members of society earn their paycheck, a percentage of their earnings is taken out. This is called paying taxes. "Free" school lunches come from that tax money. So even though it was free to the student recieving the lunch, it was paid for by a tax payer.

ReplyDeleteI think the common saying,"there's no such thing as a free lunch" means that nothing is free in the economics world. If you try to get a product you are going to have to pay something. Even if they say it is free you are still going to pay something, wether it is a deal with a free mp3 you will still have to pay for the batteries. It could be a free phone. You can take a survey for a free phone, when you get the phone you are going to have to pay for the services in-order to call someone or text someone. In the end when you really think about it, you are going to pay for something in some way.
ReplyDeleteI think "there is no such thing as free lunch" because I believe that our parents have to pay for our lunch threw the taxes they pay. Thats how the schools get the money to buy the food to feed all the students. Thats why i believe it isn't free for anyone to have free food.
ReplyDeleteThis phrase means that nothing is free. No matter what you do there will always be a cost. For example if your going to a restaurant to get something free you may have to spend some money on gas and you may have to buy something else in order to get it "free". I think that is what "There is no free lunch" means.
