ISAT ISAT ISAT

ISAT Tests....What Do You Think....

OK so now that ISAT testing is over let's see if live in school gets back to normal. This week I want to hear your thoughts on standardized testing and it's effect on education. Tell me what you think about the ISAT process and how it affects you, your teacher, and our school district. Your response could be a thought you already had or could be a response to any of the following topics:
  1. Talk about the testing process...(Timeline..silence in the halls...anyhthing related to testing)
  2. What preparation did you go through for the tests...
  3. Is/should your teacher be held accountable for the results of your test?
  4. Is it fair to be assessed on a single test given once a year?
  5. Do some students do better on tests than others?
  6. Should testing be at the state level or the federal?
Your response does not have to be to any of the above questions - these are only suggestions to get your noggins cooking. Responses must be a paragraph of at least 5 sentences.

  2. I think ISAT is a good for the students and teachers because they show what the students need to work on. For teachers it shows what they need to do better in teaching the kids.In all i guess ISAT is OKAY.

  3. I'm glad Isats are over. From the beginning of the year it's all about Isats! We started preparing for the tests right away even though they were months away. While the tests are going on, you get screamed at by teachers if you even whisper in the hallway. To prepare for the test, our teachers gave us a bunch of big packets of work to see if we were ready for the tests, and what we had to work on so we could get good scores. It really depends if the teacher should be held accountable for the results of the test because some teachers are bad teachers while some kids just dont pay attention during class so they dont learn anything. I don't think it's fair to be assessed on a test given once a year. I think you should have tests throughout the year and be assessed on your progress. Yes, some students do better on tests than others for many different readsons. They could be really smart and just be a bad tester. It should be at the federal level so the scores can be compared to kids all over the country.

  4. ISAT , In My Opinion , Is Wasteful . Its Just Used To See The Progress That Schools Are Making With Their Schools . I Don't Think We Should Have To Take It Every Single Year Of Elementary School . Maybe Once In The Third And Again As 8th Graders. No Need For All The Prepping For Nothing , Like Our Lives Depend On It . ISAT Really Means Nothing . The Silence In The Halls Is Just So That People Can Concentrate , Which Is Understandable . Teachers , If Students Fail , Shouldn't Be Held Accountable As Long As They Teach The Right Things . Testing Should Be At Federal Level , Because State Takes Too Long To Get Back The Results.

  5. When it comes to ISAT testing the part about it that was enjoyable was the deep utter silence. During the test I would be able to think more clearly now that it wasn't any noise at all!.I think that they could of given us more time to take the test. The time be too short and when they say you have only 5min. left and you still have time consuming problems that takes about another 15min. you have to sit there and rush and end up getting the answer wrong and we wouldn't need to take an "educated guess".That is my main concern and conflict with the ISAT testing!

  6. The schedule was a little confusing for me but it was pretty good.We didn't do much work that week.I liked the silence because it helped me concentrate on the test.I didn't go through any preparation for the test except have all my supplies ready.I guess the teacher should be held accountable a little because he/she is the one that taught us what we need to know and they helped us with any problems we had during the test which makes me feel relaxed which helped us concentrate during the test.I don't think it's fair to be assessed on a test taken every year because we might have done really good during the whole year but for whatever reason we didn't do good on the test and now we are looked at as dumb kids.It should stay at the state level because it seems easier.

  7. I don't like testing because it seems to make everyone stressed. The teachers go crazy and load on the homework and us kids are just like whatever. It's kind of pointless also since most of the stuff on the test isn't something we would usually learn in a normal classroom setting. I don't like the silence because I'm someone who needs music to learn better. I'm glad they're over now. But that's just my opinion.

  8. Um i dont think isat is that bad because we didnt really do work all week and we finally went out for recess. The test isnt even that hard. We started preparing from the begining of the school year. I think the teachers should be held accountable because they the ones whos teachin us everything we need to know. We shouldnt have one test a year because you forget some stuff. But yea some students do test better than others.

  9. to me isat is not valid nor useful. let me explain alittle more see we do all this preperation for it and when the test come majority of it is still stuff we don't know i would like it if they take the questions out of the book.. well just math on my end, especially LEVEL SYSTEM ITS NON ETHICAL AND IS NOT VALID AND SHOULD BE DROPPED DURING ISAT CAUSE STUDENTS ARE WORRIED ABOUT LOSING POINTS but on the other hand silence in the hallways is need for some students.

    1. really rex(: but yes i hate the level system with a passion and we get class points taken off when few people talk while others are testing.??

    2. I know most of the stuff so I don't know about your second sentence. What's a level system? How are they going to take it out of the book if they don't make the test.Should they make the test?

  10. Taking ISAT isn't as hard as many people think. I just think it's a waste of time. There is no need to take so long in just testing. Students need time off and want to be free. There is really no point in ISAT yea they want to know what we know and just say try our bests but in the end they pressure us and work our brains off. They expect us to be3 quiet the whole time, I like the silence because i can think more but when we aren't testing we cant talk at all. We tested all day and want to talk is that too much to ask. I only like ISAT because its very peaceful and we have no work to do but test. I would prefer it to be a federal test because it won't last to long.

  11. The ISAT process effects teachers, students, and the district in many ways. During the ISAT testing process students aren't allowed to wear non-uniform days, because it causes distractions. Students also have to be really quite during testing so they don't disturb other students. Teachers have to think of things to do to keep students busy while other students are testing. The district is effected, because all the schools have to go through the same things.

  12. I in a way kinda liked Isat's because we really don't do anything. Other then the test. I don't like when its quiet because im not a really quite person in school. I don't think the teacher should be held accountable because even if they taught you the lesson you could have forgot or something. I don't think we should have a test every year because a test every year is to much and its a lot of stress on the kids. I still have two more test to do.

  13. In my opinion ISAT affects myself , my teachers , and district 170 . It affects us in a good way and a bad way . During ISAT kids are frustrated . We have to be quiet before we test , AND after we test . I honestly think we need to take a break . Kids can't be quiet all day for the two weeks straight . I think it stresses the whole district . Especially the teachers . The ISAT shows what our teachers has taught us throughout the whole year . If we score low that makes not only us , but our teachers look bad . I think teachers shouldn't be blamed if we score low . They do their job by teaching us . It's our fault if we don't pay attention in class , and do what we need to do it's our fault .

  14. My response to this quote is I dont think ISAT is bad because there just texting us to see what we learned during our year and wants to see our acdemic level. But in other words, ISAT is borning and it takes so long because im very impatient and doesnt really like being quiet.

    2. it is boring. sitting in a silent room for like an hour doing a whole bunch of math problems and extended responses...i don't even want to think about it.

  15. i really dont like ISAT testing because you and the teachers stress out for about two weeks. I mean we havent had as much homework as we would not during ISAT, the kids dont want any period but its just more work. Once you actually get the test, its like the teachers really didnt teach you some stuff on there. I dont like the tests being every single year, its irritating.. im soo happy ISAT testing is over.

  16. I believe its really unfair for teachers to come be punished for their students because some students just don't want to learn so they choose not to do well. Its not there fault all the time.

  17. I kinda like to ISAT testing because we just test and not do anything else. We test for a small portion of the day and the rest of the day we do fun stuff. If its nice outside we can go out for recess. We practically just be quiet all day and we get rewarded.:D
