Dear class,

I would like you to read the quote below by Theodore Roosevelt and comment on what it means to you.
"It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat."

  1. I think this quote means that you should always try your best. It doesn't matter what others say because they're not the ones doing it. They don't know what it takes to get where you're at. It's the person that's trying who will come out on top. So try your best and forget about what others say or think.

  2. i think this quote means that you should always give something your all. Just because other people try to discourage you still try, no matter what. They arent the ones doing what you do. They dont know where you were and where youre at. The person that cares and actually tries will be successful. Try your hardest and dont think about others opinions.

  3. it shows the true characterristics of a man, and how their life should be not of the fake life others live. your suppose to be happy in life and not be a timid soul just like what the quote said.!

  4. I think that this quote means that a man should be recognized for the good he did and not for the bad he did. I also think that this means that if you fail on something that you really want to achieve you shouldn't give up.

  5. I think it means to take chances on what you believe in. I also think it means to try your hardest and never give up. Also, you shouldn't care about what others think, and never let anyone tell you you don't deserve something. When people try to judge you, don't mind them and keep doing what you're doing.

  6. I think it means that if one wants to get somewhere you have to try to do your best. You have to work hard and try to do your best to get where you want to get. This quote to me is mostly to encourage people to work hard and try to get to your goal.

To me this quote means that no matter what anybody says or do don't worry about their self-centered criticism because they are just trying to bring you down with their low achievement.(or hating)You should let yourself be who u r and take the credit for what u have done because u r the one who "put your blood and tears" into what you do.

  9. I think that what Theodore Roosevelt was trying to say is that the man that actually strives to get something done is the one that will succeed in life; but the one that sits there and critiques the man that strives toward his goals hes not going to be successful.

  11. I think this quote means that no matter how hard you work at things, nothings going to be perfect. You just have to stay strong and overcome your mistakes, and crazy challenges. THATS THE ONLY WAY TO STAY STRONG!

  12. I THINK IT MEANS IF YOU CAN DO SUCCED AT ANY THING IF YOU TRY YOUR HARDEST AND BELIEVE. ALSO IF YOU TRY HARDER TO GET BETTER YOU CAN GET BETTER AT ANYTHING AND DO ANYTHING YOU WANT IN LIFE.

  14. I think it means that people should do their best , even if their best isn't good . People should look at the man attempting to do something and failing instead of looking at the man whose making fun of , or finding something wrong with what the other person is trying to do .

Honestly I don't get what he's talking about but if I had to guess I'd say that this quote is "never give in stand up for what you believe in."Or dont let any one take the credit that you rightfully own. Fortunetly I agree with this quote because it excercices confidence. In which some people need.
